I would like to set up a new low tech tank with a sand substrate. I don't want to dose. After reading pretty heavy for the last couple of days, I guess I'll be kind of limited on plants. All my tanks I have now are Eco-Complete substrate with no dosing. My plants grow very very slow, but I'm cool with that. Can some of you guys post pics of your low techs with a sand substrate?? I would ask this question under the substrate forum, but I want to see low techs only. Pics please!!
I'm using silica (pool filter) sand. For rooted plants I'm using some Seachem Flourish Root Tabs and although I'm backing off, I did use Flourish Trace and Comp to get plants growing. This photo is after about 4 months.
Low tech 55 with 2 inches of pool filter sand. $8.00 for a 60lb bag at my local Home Depot. The Lowes nearby doesn't carry it but I'm not sure if that's just the one nearby or all of them.
I carpet bomb with Osmocote root tabs every 4 or 5 months.
