Does anyone have any input on this light? The threads I've seen are old and don't provide much info on plant growth. I have a Fluval Spec III which is only 2.6 gallons, ad about 10" from top of water to the substrate. I have dwarf baby tears that are starting to do pretty well with a 13w CFL and clip on work light. Paintball CO2 injection, PPS-Pro fertilization. I just picked up the Fluval LED because I like the way it looks over the clip on light, and it fits my tank well. It definitely doesn't appear as bright as the CFL, so I'm worried my plants may take a step backwards. Has anyone used this light to carpet before?
I've read the opposite about the adhesive. Impossible to remove. It's the same stuff I've used in automotive applications and is super strong. I doubt I will ever be able to take it off without breaking the tank.
For a rimless you have to stick two separate pieces. The top is still stuck to my tank, but it was the bottom half that did not hold. Luckily, I saw it before the lights came on on the morning. Check all the reviews on Amazon and you will see that the product fails pretty often.
The light is having no issues with the mount so far, in fact I can't get it off. My dwarf baby tears have been slowly melting in the last 1.5 to 2 weeks since I switched to this light. I don't think it is enough for what I want to do, so I put the CFL back on.
sorry to hear. It really worked great for me. I guess HC is quite a demanding plant though. i've given up on HC after a few failed attempts in my larger tanks.
It's 8w, on a 2.6 gallon tank, so about 3w/gallon. What I've read says that the watts per gallon isn't a great measure for nano tanks though, and they require more wpg than a larger tank.
Since the light isn't cutting it for the HC carpet, and I can't get the mount off of the back of the tank without breaking it, I decided to build a mount for my cfl that worked with the fluval piece. That way I can swing the light out of the way to work in the tank or do a water change. I was having to unclip the light every time. I used a piece of steel pipe and a small metal bar, tig welded together. It works perfectly and now I can swing the light out of the way when I need to. I can also go back to the fluval LED later if I decide to do something different with this tank. My HC carpet has bounced back greatly in the last week, so I know this light is doing a better job.
This is what happens when you're a car guy and get into fish tanks:
Wow I really like the brooder light on that. I ended up doing a finnex planed plus clip on on mine. My Pygmy chain sword has started carpeting and my Java moss background is really spreading now.
