Smile light bulb just went on

I think that I have uncovered a hidden conspiracy by the lighting manufacturers. It is they, perhaps in collusion with others, who have secretly encouraged the planted aquarium hobby so that we would go out and buy these specialty fixtures and bulbs under the pretense that plastic plants aren't good enough and don't look real. I recently replaced the bulbs on my planted tanks because they were a year old and spent $125 at an online store getting CF, T5 and fluorescent tubes for 9 tanks. I probably could have spent double that if I had purchased them at a retail store. I'm just thankful that I haven't gotten into T5HO and HQI fixtures

According to many, there are a number of bulbs (At least normal output) that have a spectrum that works well for plants. The bulbs are like 3 bucks. I agree, once you start looking for High output bulbs the screw you in the socket.

Sometimes the plastic plants are pretty tempting- but they're really hard to grow.

Someone should try to make hybrid species of plastic/real plants so they don't require expensive light AND they wouldn't just melt because something changed.

Cyborg plants FTW...

Speaking of hybrids, some of the cloth plants are better looking than the real counterparts. Until they get algae on them. They move well in the current too.

At work the plant people put the same "don't water me" signs on the real and fake plants. Unless you see them being vacuumed you can't tell the difference.
