So I'm building a 30g shrimp tank and I'd like to have carpeting plants. I've been looking at many lights like kessil, current pro, bml and a few others. The tank will have co2 running and I'm using aquasoil. I'd love to hear people's suggestions and thoughts on which light would be better and why. Thanks
Seems like cost isn't that much of a factor(since you even went there) on what you want
in a fixture. The BML Dutch style would be my choice had I no or little cost concerns.
But/w a dimmer to be sure.
Because of the length of the tank I don't think Kessil is a better choice.
A stingray has the color, but not the intensity for most carpet plants @ that height tank.
The Planted+ lacks the blue bulbs so has less color for viewing. Lots of people like it however so surely a choice to be considered.
The Satallite Plus is also lacing intensity for the carpet type plants/w a couple of exceptions(gladly welcome any difference in opinion on that statement).
So the Satallite Plus Pro is needed but cost more than the BML.(I think)
So cost oriented solution would be a Fluorescent fixture.
Home Depot sells a "Diamond Plate shop light" that is far adequate for a 16" tall tank.
Would need to be hung higher to avoid algae. But don't think it comes in 36".
36" horticulture bulbs are available. In good plant spectrums that is.
But a T8 fixture/w good reflectors will be enough for carpet plants also.
Provided you use good bulbs in it. Any spectrum will grow, but some are just better.
Get a dimmer with it and you won't regret it. Great fixture
