Lowe's and Home Depot both sell electronic ballasts for the T8 bulbs. Wouldn't these work for PC bulbs as well? For example, a Fulham Workhorse 5 ballast is rated for 128 watts. This ballast is commonly used for driving two 55/65 watt PC bulbs. It is also used for driving 4 F32 T8 bulbs, just like the ones at Home Depot and Lowe's. I would think these 4x32 ballasts would be comparable to the Fulham's (I have no idea about quality, I only mean in terms of fitness for purpose). Likewise, I would think you could use a 2x32 from either of these stores, about $19.00, to drive two 36 watt PC bulbs.
I don't know, but I think it could deserve further research. However, the 4x32 ballasts cost about $28.00, and I'm pretty sure you can order the Workhorse 5 for $30.00, so if it is better, I guess there isn't much point.
