When things look favorable with funds or what not you can always move up to LEDs or come across some used fixtures for sale over time.
I'm using the clamp lights on my 55G, I have 4 of them with 2 23W 6500k and 2 23W 5000k bulbs. The reflectors are 8 1/2 inch wide.

For a 40B, How many of these clamp lights would I need for high lighting? I'm wanting as high of lighting as I can go for fast growth. I will be running pressurized co2 and EI dry ferts.

you can get buy with 2 clamped at opposite ends. if you have a glass versatop, you might be able to use 4 smaller sized ones. i used 3 6.5" domes over my 20g high.

stick with the 6500k and skip the 5000k as they are too yellow and benefit our viewing more than plant growth. If you really want the plant colors to pop, add some red grow bulbs. They are available through hydroponic outlets or online.

Would 2 really be good for high lighting though? Or are you saying 2 clamps on each side (so 4 total)?

I can skip the 5000K's and look into getting some red grow bulbs.

So I think I have narrowed down my lighting.

I found T8 fixtures at Walmart for $12 dollars and at HomeDepot, the 10 pack of T8 32W 6500k bulbs are only $34 dollars (just a few more dollars than the T12's).

I figure I would go with T8's instead of the T12's.

So right now I'm at about $166 for 8 fixtures and 2 packs of lights (2 fixtures, 4 bulbs per tank).

I am going to look into getting some red grow bulbs as well. maybe setup one tank for red plants.

Anyways, what do you guys think?

A lot of light per tank?

Let me know and thanks for the advice so far!!!
