Cheap Lights for a 10 Gal

Hey guys, my first post, and let me say, this is the best forum I have found yet. Already my tanks are looking much better with the tricks that I learned here. Anyways I have a 10 Gal tank that isnt doing very much - mostly because the lighting sucks. Right now its using a crappy incandesant hood from Wal-Mart. I want to replace the lighting so I can turn the tank into a nursury for my clippings from other tanks and possibly into a shrimp tank as well. I really dont care about aesthetics - I just want to get things to grow as cheap as possible. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Planted Tank!

You can get an easy improvement by using Compact Fluorescent bulbs in your incandescent hood, as shown here:

http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/di...reflector.html

In that same post, note the effects of a better reflector.

To get further improvement you could use PC bulbs (power compacts) and even better reflectors, check this out.

So thats how you got your lights on that tiny hood. I saw your tank on another thread, but I didnt see any way to get similar results from my own hood. Thanks for your help
