Unhappy with my current lighting...what should I switch to?

I have a standard 55 gallon tank, and am unhappy with my lighting setup. I admit, I cheaped out, and now I am paying the price.

Standard 55, ADA aquasoil, pressurized CO2 with a rex griggs reactor. My co2 is doing great after a bumpy month or two dialing it in. EI dosing with powdered fertz

I have a 48" odyssea fixture, with giesman bulbs, 1 aquaflora pink, and the other a midday sun.

My stem plants do well, my carpet plants have been stagnant. Blyxa Japacona has not done well, neither did Mermaid weed.

What LED fixture should I switch to? What is the most trust worthy? I dislike the colour spectrum I have now, and am not happy with the lack of carpet plant growth, but yet I can grow BBA on the fly.

Are you wanting to to stick with a T5HO or go to LED?

buildmyled

Highest PAR from other leds Ive seen
Customize-able LEDS, from reds, blues to 6500k
Better price than most leds Ive seen

I will be buying one from there for my high tech 45 gal. I have not found another led fixture that has all these in one package.

+1 for BuildMyLED

I love the light I got from them, I've had incredible growth since installing it. They came highly recommended to me and I will pass along the praise. Well worth the investment.

I keep hearing a lot of good things about them. I might have to bite the bullet and get one of their fixtures.

You'll be very happy if you do, I use their 36" 90 degree planted tank fixture on my 40b and it covers every inch of the tank

This is what Ill be using for my dutch

http://www.buildmyled.com/custom-rep...ASAOARMTAPASAA

If there are experienced people who have used buildmyled, I wouldnt mind hearing about my setup. I hope the OP is fine with me asking.

This is quoting Nick, the Co-Founder who helped me pick the spectrum:

"At 15" depth, this spectrum will yield approximately 160 PAR in tank filled with water."

Which is overkill but my plant load is insane so it should be good (my tank depth is 15").

Another member recommended them to me in my 40b thread and said that he has had excellent luck with his fixture on his 40b. I like my T5HO, but I'm not getting the light output that I want.

One quick question though, how do you read their PAR charts?

BTW, sorry to the OP for hijacking.

It will definitely fix your lighting problem, you'll also save money on bulbs and energy. These LEDs don't put out near as much heat either.

Here's one for a good price, only $160

Here's a link to a thread that put me onto the Evo LED systems, and his plants are doing great with it.

I've had good luck in the growth dept with the Ray 2. Color looks kinda stale though.

If you go with good stuff, you are generally rewarded, this applies to LEDs and T5's, I use ATI T5's on my home aquariums.

LED's for the reefs etc.

LED's have come a ways for FW tanks, but ......I still have not seen the same results with them as the T5's.

I appreciate the comments. I am torn on a Finnex Ray 2, or a buildmyLED setup.

I feel the buildmyLED setup will be better because of the dimmer on it.

Anyone else's thoughts?

You have it mounted with the legs on the tank or suspended? If suspended then how high? Does it do well with red plants and keeping them nice and red?

Also, I wouldn't mind the Finnex ray 2...but which spectrum is which?! I found them on Amazon for a great price, but I have no clue which spectrum each one is.

Do I need a 48" light for my 55? Or would I get away with a 36" setup?
