Hi all, I'm curious to see if anyone is still using the old fashioned shop lights.... there's so much power compact madness i'm wondering if shop lights are still a good solution to plant tanks...

I am using a shop light fixture in teh canopy for my 45 gallon tank :-) It works like a charm so I have no reason to change it.

I currently have two shoplights over my 55 gallon and have not had any problems and have had healthy plant growth. It might now be the fastest growth, but it is fine for me.

I am using a 24" 2 bulb shoplight right now. Since I am tight on cash will be sticking with for a bit, but will be gutting it this weekend so I can put in a electoronic ballist in it so I can "overdrive" it.

Its not pretty, and has no reflector, but its getting the job done. And hell when I get the ballast and some better "quality" spectrum bulbs I might even be styling... well maybe not, but the plants might be happy.
