Silicone and CFs

I'm relatively new to this, so please bear with me and my noob question.......

I've read here and there about siliconing CF bulbs that are mounted over open water. Could anyone show me a picture or explain exactly the places that need to be sealed?

I think that is refering to the putting a small amount of silicone around the base of a screw in CF bulb so water does not get into the socket. I just use electric tape.

Those bulbs get pretty hot, the electrical tape does OK with that? I was worried about the silicone burning or giving off fumes.....Also, does any part of the socket itself need to be sealed? Mine does not seem to be a single, seamless piece of plastic. I guess I could just cover anything that could potentially let in water, I was just unsure of the heat factor and whether any seams or joints needed to "breathe" for venting or cooling purposes.

Thanks again

The silicone in question is NOT the stuff you seal bathtubs with. It's silicone grease. Electricians grease if you will.
