40 breeder. High tech LED or t5HO?

Looking for new lighting system for my high tech dutch scape.

Searching around I found that if I would go LED I would choose Finnex ray II, but my question is would just one put me at high light or would two be better and just have the second one lit for four hours a day. Also, if I chose just one, I am worried that the spread of light wouldn't be enough and the light would just go straight down not flooding the entire tank enough.

For t5HO I would most likely go for 4 bulbs and have 2 lights on for 4 hour burst period just like the LED's as far as what brand I am open to ideas. I have heard of Catalina and their amazing reflectors. If I did choose Catalina, maybe I could pass for just 2 bulbs and still get amazing color and growth. I understand that it's not all about light but more about the balance of co2 and fertz. Anyway, any other brand suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Or any other things that may be worth mentioning, feel free.

If you have a canopy I would recommend checking out the AH Supply LED kits.

Always nice to see someone going Dutch as well

I like any high light LED, less power consumption and does not give off that massive heat. Summer is coming and that is a nice bonus

I'm considering what to get for two 40 breeders I will be setting up. I am going to wait for next finnex release in 3-4 months. If I had to get it today I'd probably get two fugeray a since tank is 18 inches wide

Still wondering if LED lighting will flood my entire tank. Anybody have experience with the finnex ray 2 on a 40 breeder?

Re: 40 breeder. High tech LED or t5HO?

If your going for high light over the entire tank, the ray 2 doesn't give a good enough spread and drops off to much. I originally got one ray 2 and have a glass top so couldn't put it dead center and it doesn't have the spread on a 40b.
Wanted to experiment a little and got a buildmyled light and have been running both over my 40b getting excellent coverage.
IMO get two ray 2s, my combo or get a 4 bulb t-5.

Miles03-is the reason you need two lights is the placement due to the hinge on your glass top? If you we're running the tank open top with the light centered would spread be a problem? Would a wider lens help? I'm currently shopping for a light for my 40b and I'm considering both of these lights. I like the dimmable features of the buildmyled and the fact that it is made in the USA with a 3 year warranty. Since you own both, do you care to compare them? Is the buildmyled with the extra cash?

no its not the top, i tried the same thing with my 40B and a single ray2. not enough light and algae city (for some reason all my tanks with just white leds grow algae). added 3 bulb t5no with 2 colormax and one 6700 bulb and that solved everything. no algae and good growth. tank has co2 and irregular ferts (micros and K). you can go 2 fugerays and a monsterray for good color (rgb led's really bring out the colors), or mayb try a single ray2 with a monsteray.
