Med lighting on a 29 gallon?

I am aiming for medium lighting on my new 29 gallon. Would a 2 bulb t5NO fixture be considered medium light or low light? I have heard people say both things.

I was thinking of buying the t5ho fixture but I have read it is really too much light unless you are going to dose alot of CO2 and use a lot of ferts.

My current plans for this tank involve co2 but I dont want to go too crazy with light and end up with algae.

Thank you for the reply!

This is the lighting fixture I am thinking of buying. It is the Coralife 30 inch Aqualight. The Zoomed t5HO is only ~15 dollars more than the Coralife but I dont want to deal with crazy algae! My last tank I had too much light and it was a disaster.

edit

I have been looking through plant lists and I may have changed my mind about the plants I want. There is definitely going to be a lot of crypts but I am very interested in keeping staurogyne sp. and Ludwigia Inclinata. Would this light support those plants?

I am really digging my 30" FugeRay LED on my 29g. Great price for LED and it will get you to the low end of medium lighting.

Thank you for the reply.

How is the color on the fuge ray? I dislike yellowish lighting. I also dislike that it is 90 USD

does anyone know if that T5NO is medium lighting or is it low light over a 29g?

After replacing the bulbs once in that dual t5 fixture you would be looking at about the same price and you will be doing that twice a year.

The FugeRay uses 7000k LEDs which produce no yellow tint whatsoever. Here is a pic with it on top of my tank. I just planted most of the plants so the ones that don't look that great is because I received them that way. The plants that I have had in the tank for a while are doing great.

That light looks pretty good. I have been rethinking my stock list and I would like to get closer to high light than to low light and try my hand at growing some staurogyne. Would the Ray be able to handle this or should I go to the Ray 2?

You made a good point about replacement of bulbs. I was thinking of the Zoomed t5ho but after buying bulbs for it you are almost at 90 anyway.

Why is lighting a planted tank such a headache. I have been reading literally all day about lighting a 29 gallon tank and it is very hard to get answers for some reason. Most people say completely different things! Comparatively, picking reef tank lighting is pretty much 1 2 3 this is insane.

I have heard t5no is med light, low light or not enough light.

I have heard t5ho is med light, is high light or is way too much light.

I have heard the Ray II is high light and medium light or it doesnt have good coverage on a 30 inch tank.

Please for the love of the fish tank gods can someone just show me a sweet 29 gal tank and tell me what they did!!!

edit

I have a super old 36" coralife double pc fixture I used for a reef tank. Should I just use this with new bulbs????? I am going insane.

Finnex RAY II & FugeRAY PAR Data

If you want a cheap solution with cheap replaceable bulbs do this

My inexpensive CFL light solution

Nobody is going to tell you what to buy. There is plenty of info on the forum. Just pull the trigger on something and go from there.
