9 leds over a 8 gallon too much?

Hello, I'm new to planted tanks and come from a reef tank background.

I have a DIY led light with 6 cool whites, 2 warm white and 1 blue light over a 8 gallon cube. All bulbs are 3 watters and on a dimmer switch.

I'm not sure how I should start the lighting intensity. The fixture will be sitting on the rim on the tank, so it's roughly 2" from the surface. I don't want to get into c02 just yet and I don't want algae either. How should I go about setting up the lighting photoperiod etc?

Sounds like a lot but it all depends on setup. Do you have a dimmer? What type of led's are they? Wattage? Current? Hoppy has an excel spreadsheet that can calculate par if you know the specs of the led's. Your op has left a lot of important info out so it will be hard for anyone to help without getting more info.
