Tank placement

I am just starting to figure things out here, and it seems one of the most important aspects of planted aquariums is light. Can a 20 gallon tank be placed near a northern exposed window and not turn into a algae farm?

Like I said, I am at square 1 ....

thank you

Hello mun...

I have a 45G placed near a large window that faces north and a window that faces east (see attached pic). The tank is fine. I have sheer curtains over the windows, so the light that hits the tank is filtered. As long as the tank doesn't get direct sunlight, you shouldn't have a problem with algae. I never have with this 45.

Just an opinion, though.
