T5 48" (just barely)
I have a 55 gal acrylic with stand & canopy. Picked it up off CL. It came with a 36" T12 mounted in the canopy. I want to upgrade to T5, but the canopy space is 48.5" and I'm having a hard time finding a fixture that will fit. I know I could go down to 36" T5 but hoped I could find a 48" that will work. Anybody else find one that will work in a tight space?

Have you looked at http://www.ahsupply.com/54watt.htm for retrofit T5 lights? It only takes one bulb to light the tank very well, and you might be able to fit this diagonally across the length of the tank if it is too long.
Good idea. I will check that dimension this evening. The front 1/3 of the canopy lifts for tank access so I may not get much more room even using the diagonal since the 55 is such a "skinny" tank to start with.
