Bulbs keep blowing

My nephew has been showing interest in my planted tanks recently and i decided to keep my eye out for a 10 gallon setup. I found a 10 gallon marineland eclipse, its perfect for what he needs. It did not come with the CFL bulbs so i went and bought 2 new Marineland bulbs from the LFS. 2 days later one of the bulbs (over the HOB) stopped working. Im guessing it was due to the splash from the HOB filter. I took it back and exchanged the bulb, filled the tank up to the rim so it wouldnt splash as much, but the same thing happened today. I cant move the HOB because the hood only allows it to be on one side, otherwise i would have placed it in the middle of the 2 bulbs. How can i create a "splashguard" ?

You can find bulbs that are rubber coated for food use. They should stand up better, otherwise, damper the output of the filter flow so it does not splash.

I use sylania brand micro cfl bulbs(6500k 13 and 26w.) I've seen them wet with no problems when bubble features move and spray the hood with mist.

These aren't the food safe bulbs, they're actually the cheapest I can find locally. I have them in hoods, dome reflectors and a few light sockets around the house. I move the used but still functioning bulbs from my tank to needy sockets around the house.

Your bulbs should not be blowing out so fast.
