what type of lighting

I have a 20 gal tank 24x17x12 I'm wondering what would be the best choice for light for my tank when I finally get things set up

1. current usa orbit 20" 2x40 watt power compact strip light w/ lunar light

2. current usa orbit 24" 2x65 watt w/ 2 lunar lights

seeing as I don't know anything about planted tanks I thought I'd post this question and get some good advice on these choices or something else.

Unless you have pressurized CO2 those are both poor choices.

At most with DIY you would want to go with a single 65 watt fixture. I run an AH Supply 55 watt kit over my 20 gallon tank.

even with CO2, I wouldn't waste money on a 2x65w unit when 1x65w is god's plenty. i run 1x65w coralife fixtures over each of my 20 gallons, and that's good light.
