Lighting for carpeting Glossy??

Hey all, was curious about what type of lighting i should use for my 30 gallon tank that can carpet glossy..

Currently i have an AquaticLife T5HO fixture.. 2 bulb.. Both 39w

I had a Life-Glo 6700k bulb in my fixture along with a Fulham 6500k bulb, and my glossy grows fine, it just grows tall.. Which ive heard is from lighting that isn't strong enough..

I am looking for suggestions or what people have used that help glossy carpet..

I am running co2, and dosing liquid ferts as well..

I have a baby tears carpet as well, but those mostly grew under 2 corallife fixtures that sat on the top of the tank, was not HO lighting.. and each fixture put out 42 watts per fixture putting me at around 80 watts which is what i have roughly right now except it is HO lighting..

The corallife also had poor reflectors which is why i had 2 of them to cover more area.. since the fixtures themselves are only 3 inches wide.

Your lighting sounds more than adequate.

Light intensity is not the only thing that determines height. Glosso benefits from training. Once the roots are well established, cut it low. It comes back lower, finer, and denser.

I understand that, but I have cut it low already and it is growing back lower, but it isn't carpeting and that is what i want it to do.

like sending out runners etc.

Also using ADA amazonia soil if wondering..

How long have you had it? I only grew a glosso carpet once, so I'm no expert. But it took almost two months before it started sending out substantial runners. Then it quickly took over the whole tank.

I have had it since like oct 18, it grew tall once, like over a month ago because of other bulbs i had that were somewhat weak..

I trimmed, it is regrowing but still growing up instead of carpeting.. i just put the other 6500k bulb in today, so ill give it a little more time to see what happens..

I am just unsure with the 6500k's that i have what kind of spectrum the bulbs have.. I can't find anything on the Fulham 6500k bulbs anywhere. i got them with my first fixture

Because it was able to grow tall, it will keep trying to do that until it realizes it can't do that and will take to runners and carpeting. It is a stem plant after all. Just keep cutting it low to the substrate and it will eventually learn to stay low to the ground.

Just make sure you vigorously trim it down the moment it grows up, doing that for a few weeks should cure your problem. Just adding on more light will make it think, "oh hey I can grow faster."
