LED Replacement light for 29g

My coralife fixture finally went kaput on me. I'm currently looking for a replacement fixture and thinking of trying an LED one. This is a new rhelm for me and would greatly appreciate some advice.

I'm currently looking at the Marineland Double Bright 24"-36" fixture. It will be sitting directly on the tank just a few inches off the water.

My lighting requirements are med-high as it is a nicely planted tank. I do dose EI and CO2 as well.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Thanks!
J.

That fixture barely provides low light on a 12" tall tank. Wouldn't be suitable for your tank.

Check out Finnex or consider building your own fixture if you want medium-high lighting.

I've heard good things about finnex ray 2 series fixtures. I just got one for my 20 gallon and can't wait to see how it does. I don't know if you have seen this but this thread has a great deal of information on several current fixtures available.

LED Lighting Compendium

I have the 24" ray 2 DS fixture and going by the information on that thread it should give me medium to high light for my tank. Hope that helped.

Finnex is a site sponsors. I suspect that aquavibrant.com is linked in somehow. Reviews have been favorable - good marketing or a good product.

I punted and put my diy project on hold. A Ray 2 should be in delivered tomorrow. fingers crossed.

How about the Fugeray as it comes in a 30" model? For a 29g, the Ray II would be 24". Need more research and opinions.

Have you gone to the Finnex sponsor forum here on TPT?

There's tons of information there regarding PAR data for each fixture the company sells. It's the very first post - a sticky - in that forum.

Hmmmmm....so with a substrate depth of 2". I have to determine if the Fugeray will at least be medium light. The 29g isn't considered a "high tech" tank but does have some nice plants growing in it.

The light I'm replacing is/was a Coralife 55w model.

I should also mention that it's an open top tank as well.

Finnex, Finnex, Finnex! I have 2 (30" and 12" Fugerays) and love them. Would have gone Ray2 but I don't have Co2 injection.

Trouble free, great light and shimmer, thin & small, low power usage, great coverage, doesn't get hot.

Wouldn't even consider tubes anymore.
