Aqualight Deluxe Series

Hi,

I found an auction for an "Aqualight Deluxe Series PC 96W 36" and am interested in buying it. Is this a good light? How will it do with my 30 gallon?

Also, how does it compare to the 30" 2-65W Aqualight, it's a little more expensive, but maybe it's worth it?

EDIT: Here's the item:

Thanks,
BC

I've had nothing but great experiences with coralife products in general, including aqualights, Ive owned 2 36' 192w fixtures and 1 48' 2x65 fixture, 2 of which I still own ( had to sell one to pay for books =| )

anyhow... assuming your 30 gallon is 36 inches , the 96w fixture will work well

I dont think a 30 inch fixture would even fit on a 30g tank

After some emailing and finding out total costs this is what I've come up with:

Aqualight (Coralife) 36" 96W Fixture ($104) +
Aqualight Adjustable Mounting Legs ($21) = $125.00

VERSUS

JBJ Formosa 36" 96 W Fixture and Flip-Top Mounting Legs = $123.00

Pretty much the same price.... Which do you think is the better deal and why should I get a particular one?

Thanks for all the help!

I prefer the look of the JBJ myself. My friend pruchased an aqualight and I didn't like the reflector it had.

40 gallon SeaClear Acrylic, 192 watt Orbit Lunar PC, Filstar XP2, Filstar XP1, JBJ Regulator, Rhinox 5000 glass co2 diffusor, 9 watt UV sterilizer, Hydor Inline Heater, Pool Filter Sand substrate

How comes shoppings so stupid, looks at all this stuff I haves, what do I do's with it.

Make sure that either light comes with a bulb suitable for a planted tank. Otherwise you will be out around $30-$40 more to get the right bulb.

Rex is right. Make sure that it is a freshwater aqualight. They come with 6700K bulbs.

Well, Hellolights.com has the 36" 96w coralife with a plant bulb for $83 plus shipping

http://hellolights.com/361xcofraq1x.html
$7 for the mounting legs. I know their shipping won't be $17.95 like that ebay auction, and I can vouche for hellolight's customer service, and speeding processing time.

One thing to consider with the Double Linear Strip Coralife fixtures, like the 2x65w, is they have built in cooling fans. Since you're in Hawaii, that might be a very desirable feature. If your tank is 36" long, that 2x65 isn't going to work on your tank. The similar 36" fixture is a 2x96w, I believe. I believe the JBJ fixture has built in cooling fans. I'd take this in to consideration when making your purchase.

You can compare the various Coralife products at their company website: http://www.esuweb.com/ Edit: Oh, and like Rex said, make sure these fixtures have the right bulbs. For the Coralife fixtures you want to make sure you are purchasing the Freshwater Aqualight Deluxe Series, otherwise you're going to end up with bulbs that need replacing.

I have the 24" 2x65w fixture and I'm very happy with it. If I had ready access to the JBJ lights I'd definitely consider them though.

Thanks for the replies... Yes, I'll make sure to get teh freshwater bulbs, on the auctions they give you a choice of either a 50/50 or 6700K.

I'm looking at the adjustable CL legs, cause many have said the regular ones are brittle and break easily. Still undecided...Hmm...

I just got one of the Formosa fixtures with the flip top legs for my 55 gallon, it is much more convenient than my other tanks where I have to take the light off to work in the tank. Just an opinion.
