Question 36 inch lights?

I have a 45g tank, 36" L, and I've been looking around trying to find lights to fit over it. Problem is, most lights are either 24", 48", or even larger. Anyone know of a good place to pick up fluorescent strips in my size? What I ultimately want to do is get T8's, either two 2 lamps and combine them or one 4 lamp and then make my own hood to fit over them. I'm looking for anywhere from 135 to 225 total watts(3-5wpg) and then I'll find bulbs to fit. Will bulbs in that size also be a problem? Also, would I maybe be better off just finding the right size fixture with whatever wattage and then overdrive it to where I want the light level? Thanks for any help!

Ok, so I read Hoppy's lighting chart, and it looks like I probably want to go with T5's instead of T8's. Doing that, I would also only need to have a 2 lamp fixture, sitting about 4 inches from surface, although I'm not sure I see a mention of wattage with that chart. Basically, I'm just looking for a high light set-up, hanging pretty near the surface of the water, with which I can grow any plant I want. Also looking to keep costs down and make the hood so I'm not looking for any pre-built stuff, just the fixtures. Sorry for the novel this question is turning into...

If you are making the hood yourself go to www.hellolights.com and check out their retrofit kits. You should not have much problems with finding 36" bulbs.

I use this light...

It's cheap and works awesome. These lights get great reviews especially for the price point.

Well, it looks like I've been looking in the wrong places. I didn't want to look at Aquarium supply houses because I had assumed they would charge way more for stuff because it was "purpose built" for an aquarium. Like how gravel in a LFS costs a zillion times more than landscaping gravel, for the same thing... Anyways, thanks a lot peeps. The light linked from GitMoe(like the name!) looks like a great deal and even two of them would be cheaper than some of the other options I've seen. I may grab two and then use them in combination under a homemade hood. I also want to add a moonlight, so that may be my best bet.

GitMoe- How are the reflectors on that light? Have you ever done/found PAR readings for the light? I'm not really that concerned with the numbers, just interested. ANYTHING would be a huge improvement over the 20w T12 I've got now...

I also have a 36" 45 gallon tank. I'm using an odyssea light fixture and I love it. Plus you really can't beat $50 shipped to your door.

I have a 36" 96W PC fixture over my 30 gallon that I'm happy with thus far. Not saying it's the best, but just furthering that there's lots of options in the 36" realm.

I've never seen any PAR readings for that specific fixture. I had to raise it about 14" above my 40 breeder. Had it right on top and the light was waaaay too much. Crazy algae. Most feedback is that the reflectors are not the best but more than adequate. I'll always look at these Odyssea fixtures for future light needs.
